How To Build A Website For Your Home Business When You Are On A Tight Budget

There are many people out there who want to start a work at home business, but they need to build a website and they either don’t know where to start, or they think they can’t afford it. It’s a myth that you need a lot of money to start a home business website. Sure, you can pay to have one built for you, but you will find that you will want to make changes to it and you need to have the flexibility to do this yourself, otherwise you will also have to pay for modifications.

The first thing you have to do is choose a domain name. When it comes to domain names; size does matter. I made the mistake of picking a long name with a lot of dashes in it. This is not recommended. Try to pick something short and memorable. It’s also a good idea to have the name of the product you are selling or promoting in your name. Spend some time brainstorming before you decide. You’ll be glad that you did.

You’ll also need a web hosting service provider. This is the company that stores the files of your website on a computer that allows Internet users to view it. You can usually acquire web hosting services for less than $10 per month. It is better to find a service with a fixed rate, because websites usually grow and require more storage space. For example, I use IPower, because they charge me the same rate no matter how much storage space I need.

It really isn’t that hard to learn to how to build a website. You would be amazed at how easy it is once you get started. There are really two approaches to building a website:

Starting From Scratch
Starting With a Template

When I started my Work At Home Directory website, I built my own site using a simple template. There are many companies on the Internet with free or inexpensive templates. I’ve seen them as low as $25 – $65. I decided to use Microsoft Frontpage as my HTML editor, because I was already familiar with some of their other software products and I thought it would make the transition easier. Many of the HTML editors out there allow you to either use their editor, or to make changes to the code directly. After I got started, I found that I did a little of both.

There are two things I would recommend when starting to build your site. Get yourself a book on the subject, such as HTML for Dummies, and find someone that knows HTML, who can help you when you get stuck. When I started my website, my 15 year old daughter was a big help to me. She taught herself HTML when she built a Neopets website at the age of 13. I figured if she could do it at 13, I could do it.

There are a lot of teenagers and college kids with basic computer experience who can help you. If you don’t know anyone, put up an ad at your local college saying that you will pay $10 per hour for someone with HTML experience who can help you set up your website. Paying someone $100 or $200 to help you, is a lot cheaper than paying $1000s for someone else to build a website, that you don’t know how to make changes too.

After you learn HTML, you can be proud of yourself, because you will have learned a skill that can help you advertise your home business and earn money at home.

How to Build Free Websites

If you have few web design skills or none whatsoever and want create an online presence, website templates are perhaps the best option for you. There are many services offering professional-quality website templates for free, enabling you to build your own, fully-functional site in just a few minutes.

In most cases, these free templates have been designed by highly experienced professionals who appreciate the fact that users may want a design that is so easy to use, that all they would need to do is to drag and drop the elements to build their own free website. Essential tasks, such as the coding, design and layout are all taken care of, allowing users to concentrate on putting together an easy-to- edit, professional-looking website with no need to learn any complicated computer programming language.

With free website templates, all you have to do is to select a theme, choose a name for your site, add your logo,  input your images and text and make your new website live. Yes, it’s that simple! A beautifully designed, professional-quality and easily navigable website, using free templates can take as little as five minutes. It doesn’t matter whether you’re hoping to build a website as an individual, a small business or a commercial enterprise, as long as you can customize a free website template, you’ll be able to get online and start receiving visitors or customers within a short time.

As web templates are fully tested by experienced web designers before they’re offered to the general public, the chances of ending up with software bugs or errors in the computer code are very small. This would be a great benefit to anyone with no experience of HTML, PHP, CSS or any other programming language.

The alternative to creating a website using a template is to get a professional designer to build one for you or to do it yourself. However, there will be cost or time considerations with either option. Some professionals may charge you hundreds or even thousands for a bespoke design, depending on the complexity of the website. A do-it-yourself approach by an inexperienced web designer could lead to a range of problems, including having the menu appear on the  wrong side of the page or the site not appearing online at all after supposedly publishing it to the internet!

With web templates, you can see from the very beginning what your page will look like, plus there are thousands of varied layouts to choose from. Furthermore, if you want to modify a template design, it is easy to do, without the need to ask for someone else’s help. Web templates also help you to appreciate some of the design and layout techniques in a professional website, with the potential for you to perhaps consider going on a  training course in the future.

Despite the instant appeal of free website templates, one thing to bear in mind is that they will not be personal to you. The basic design and layout of a template is highly likely to be accessible by other people, so there’s a real possibility that someone else may choose the same website template design as you. That said, a good website template, whether free or paid-for, will be flexible enough for you to easily rearrange or add features to make the site unique. With some website template packages, you have the potential to create literally tens of thousands of design combinations!

Website templates are the perfect solution for people who have no web design experience or who can’t afford to pay a professional designer to build a site for them. Even if you do have a little experience in web design, choosing a website template could be a great opportunity to showcase your creative skills by customizing it to create a content-rich and user-friendly website with the potential to attract many thousands of visitors…/

Want to build website that contains long form to fill-out. Which program do you recommend?

I want to be able to add a very long form to my website. It needs to be broken down into several screens since it is so long e.g. step 1, step 2, etc. I need to make sure that it would work with the server when I submit it. I was first using the Yahoo sitebuilder, but I didn’t break it up into more pages, because then it would be separtate forms and I want to keep it all as one.

It is easy to build a website for your small business .

Most consumers look on the internet before going to a store. Sometimes it is their only stop: they research, compare and buy online. It goes without saying then that for a small business to reach its potential market, it should have an internet presence.

Small business operators do not often have a dedicated IT person on staff – in the past this is the person who would be given the job of building a website. It’s great news then that there are now beginner-friendly website building packages on the market which are perfect for the small businessperson’s use.

Not all website software programs are easy to use. Small business operators do not need fully blown web design industry solutions due to the steep learning curve. One feature to look for is a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editor. This simply means you type on the page as you see it.

There are expenses involved in publishing your own website – you get nothing for nothing. Apart from the cost of the software (there are free web builders however they are more difficult to use or too basic in features), a small business (or an individual or a large company) will need to register a domain name (less than $10) and find a web hosting service (around $8 per month).

Setting up a merchant account with someone like Paypal (free)is something businesses should consider. Having a third party handle financial transactions is always reassuring for consumers and takes away an administration burden. As soon as an order is placed you will receive an alert from the merchant. You can then arrange shipping – or in the case of digital products – automate the delivery.

It is possible to build multiple websites so that you can have a website network feeding a central business. This is ideal for multi-brand retailers and multi-branch operators. Having the ability to be flexible with your online presence will be an advantage to the savvy business owner.

Because you have built and are managing your website yourself, you are able to instantly react to changing trends and new opportunities. Avoid delays by not having to wait for your webmaster to make changes. Fresh content on your website is highly desirable.

Some website programs are specifically designed to assist the business person become an internet business marketer, and as your knowledge of web design grows, the more you will value search engine optimization and site map generation tools. An active help desk to support you is important. Also you will need instructional videos to shorten the learning curve. Look for testimonials from other business owners to see how they have applied the software.

Build A Website | Design Your Own Website | Build A Home Business

Three years ago I began learning how to build a website online. I read a couple of manuals and they were cover the topic of pre-selling. The whole concept was unclear and I didn’t fully grasp this method of selling. Fast forward three years, and I can honestly say that I am happy with my progress, I am finally making money from home in my spare time, selling other peoples products.

So what is keeping you from making it online?

There are many obstacles, but the first and most important is the greed that lures many into the trap of believing that making money online is easy and that you don’t have to know how to build a website or how to market online. The truth is, you need to understand how to research your keyword, how to do SEO and how to stay focus. Without focus, all will fail. I have seen how I spent money day in day out, buying one product after another.

I never really took the time to read one product, I was looking for that one product that would make me an instant millionaire. Would you believe that even today many come online with the same thoughts, and are going through the purchase all symptoms, just like I did. You don’t have to make the same mistakes I made. You have to stop buying products and join a program that works. Learn how to build a website first, make sure your making a profit with your first site and then move on to your second site.

A next myth is that you need many websites to make a decent living online, that is pure hype and baloney. You need to build a list and focus, while learning from those who have success online. Don’t follow the losers and expect to gain, that won’t work, they are buyers.

I have finally cut back on buying products, because I know what will compliment my business and improve the goal I have set for that website. I do plan all my website building effort on a total money amount I expect that site to make. Once it reaches that goal, I move on and start a new site. Sometimes I hit pay-dirt, and then I scrap that site, add some videos to the site, until I get a great idea or research some keywords that looks profitable and start building a new site from scratch.

I seldom sell my domain names, because the older your domain names, the better they are ranked in the search engines. Now, I must be honest and tell you that this website building business isn’t for everyone. If you have a nice hobby and would like to make some serious money with your online home business, then I would advice you to jump in and test the waters. Keep your focus, and build a website for at least three months adding content every other day.

This Race is not for the swift, the slow learner and website builder with the right tools will win. Just make sure that your a member of a forum, where you can ask questions and you will be leap years ahead of the rest. The final step is getting the right tools that will enable you to learn how to build a website, the fun way, where learning will seems like child’s play.
