Present Your Best Work: Web Design Portfolio

As a web designer your final work is very important when looking to secure potential leads. The work must provide viewers with the evidence needed to show the capability and unique artistry you possess. Above all, every aspect should speak quality.

A web design portfolio is a collection of work that is a representation of your development as a designer. Portfolios normally contain every piece of formal work you have completed and any other kinds of work that will give potential clients a good sense of the dealings and progress you have gained. Because your work will be looked at without you in attendance, you should dedicate your time perfecting it. Let your work speak for itself! It’s worth taking a moment to get into the mind of the person who may be your possible client.

It is assumed that potential clients hope to hire someone or a company with a web and design background; more than likely someone who is capable of doing the job they are hired to do. They are searching for a web designer who will compliment their business, be able to complete all projects, and who understands how to get it done.

When presenting a web design portfolio, be sure to place your best pieces upfront. Potential clients may not have enough time to look through majority of your designs, so don’t scare them away by placing your best work in the back.

Please note, not every company or individual will know what type of work they need done. Usage of your web design portfolio will help to educate them about offered services and how they may be beneficial to their company’s development.

Critical Tips for a Web Design Portfolio

Verbalize how you benefit businesses List your services along with details Explain portfolio pieces Include any client testimonials Place your best work up front Be Professional!

Charlotte Web Design: Low-Cost

The amount of money a company will spend varies from industry to industry. One business may have to spend millions while another company may not even break $1,000. Many prefer to go all out, with their competitors in mind. But, most new businesses will have to curb the amount they spend on pushing their products or services.

Advertising has many forms – newspaper, magazine, television, Internet, and so on. Each method has its pros and cons. What works for one company may not work for another. Advertising experts consider word-of-mouth to be the most effective form of advertisement. This technique is known as the process of passing information from person-to-person and is free of charge.

Below is a list of low-cost and no-cost advertising methods provided by Guide to Starting Your Own Business by Black Enterprise. These methods have proven to be very useful to small and large businesses.

Flyers – create an informative and creative flyer that can be noticed in a new restaurant or company bulletin board.
Business Cards – important marketing tool that reflects the image of your business.
Brochures – give you the opportunity to provide detailed information about your business and the products or services that you offer.
Yellow Pages – people use the Yellow Pages to locate law firms, web designers, hotels, boutiques – you name it.
Company Logo – if you have crafted an eye-catching logo or slogan, it is best to place it on all printed collateral – business card, flyers, and brochures.

No matter which method your company chooses, be sure to get the biggest bang for your buck. But, you should use the medium that will be most effective in reaching your target audience.

What are the schools with the best curriculum in web design and development? The best one that I found that had both is Full Sail in Orlando.

Please don’t answer by saying it is best to learn by practice or interning, because it is irrelevant to the question. Thanks in advance.

Are You Ready For The Next Generation Of Web Design?

New innovations in the mobile phone industry, such as 3G technologies and new handsets such as the iPhone, have led to an increase in so-called WAP website design. Small, low resolution screens, clunky interfaces, inadequate navigation and slow connection speeds are a thing of the past with this next generation of mobiles, and a shift in the way many web design Solihull companies look at the use of mobile web. But the question remains: How will this affect the future of web design?

The mirroring of traditional design values with those for WAP are clear in more areas than one. For instance, many of the optimisation tactics deployed in desktop sites also apply here. The submission of a mobile sitemap to search engines, well-positioned key content, outbound linking, adding your URL to directories and business listings, as well as keyword-rich page titles and metadata are essential for indexing purposes. Designers must ensure that their site’s navigation is easy to crawl through and efficiently coded.

Layout is as much an essential component of design with mobile Internet as it is with traditional mediums – clear, crisp and concise. The use of Flash for instance should be avoided, as long loading times are considered an absolute no-no in mobile designs. Creative flourishes like this need should be eliminated as user experience is key.

Wap designs must conform to the W3C’s mobile standards, which could mean anything from the creation of WAP-friendly CSS style sheets to the correct rendering of tables and images. These guidelines are fundamental in not only ensuring that web sites crossover successfully to the WAP platform, but also in search engine optimisation, as the search engines develop their algorithms around these standards, and getting indexed will hinge upon complying with W3C.

Using a WML, XHTML or CHTML mark-up language is the best way of ensuring that your mobile device can ‘read’ your site. The correct use of these codes is essential to guarantee that the spiders can index your web pages and go some way to securing healthy search rankings.

So what about the next gen of phones then, such as the iPhone? What is apparent is that the high resolution screens of these models enable a more visual experience for the user, meaning more symmetry between WAP and desktop Internet. These handsets are able to display what is in essence the full, ‘normal’ Internet. Some popular websites, such as Facebook, are even modified when loaded through these handsets to present a slightly-watered down, but essentially the same experience.

According to recent research by the end of the year in excess of one billion people will carry handsets that are capable of providing exceptional, next generation browsing. Now is the time for web design Solihull to implement WAP-accessibility and functionality in their sites to take advantage of this booming industry.

Written by Craig Simpkin for Koenig Creare, who are a web design company that develops functional and attractive websites with the latest in Search Engine Optimisation requirements as standard.

Charlotte Web Design – Seodigger

A useful approach to generating keywords for your web site is to analyze where your competitors rank on the search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN, for keywords that you would like to rank for. There are many search engine optimization tools available to assist you with this goal.

A suggested tool to use is named Seodigger (www.seodigger.com). Seodigger is used to establish how well you rank for specific keywords opposed to your competition. The tool also allows a company to determine additional important aspects, including popularity and an approximate estimate of how much search volume each individual keyword obtains.

Seodigger is available for free. Nonregistered users have the ability to conduct up to five free domain searches every hour, while registered members are allowed up to ten domains per hour. Rankings are pulled from both Google.com and MSN.com.

Another great feature of Seodigger is a function called site-wide search. This feature gives registered members the opportunity to search for the top 20 rankings for every single page of a web site, as opposed to just searching the home page rankings. A valid email address is required to register.

Seodigger also provides you with important information regarding keyword popularity. Keeping track of your competitors’ keyword popularity is crucial because it can be used to determine the relative amount of traffic your competitor is receiving for a particular keyword placement.

New web sites should always invest in some sort of competitor analysis tool. Doing so can help you and your web site out in the long run by providing you with valuable information.
